Widgety Goodness – a whole conference on the ephemera that is widgets. I love widgets, you can try stuff out for relatively low outlay and just see how it works.

Regent St Christmas Lights

 Regent St Christmas lights

Spotted these lovely lights on Monday night in Regents St. Just found out they are called ‘Unity’ and were created by Wieden + Kennedy London in partnership with UVA for Nokia. They change colour in reaction to wind, temperature and soon you’ll be able to interact with them through the new Nokia store on Regent St.

Green Marketing Manifesto

Green Marketing Manifesto

Read John Grant’s new book ”The Green Marketing Manifesto’. I heard John talk at Applied Green and to my mind, he was the standout speaker of the day.

John will send a free copy of the book to the first 50 people who link to it, but I’ve already got one coming, so if you read this John and I’m (very doubtfully) one of the first 50 – pass it on.

John Grant’s Condom

Slightly belated – Applied Green conference 3rd October

Billed as a conference where the biggest names will tackle the biggest issue we face, I was fairly keen to see if all the marketing and greenecosociologicalistic luminaries could work out a way in which a socially influential industry such as our could have a real impact.

The day began with Jonathon Porritt introducing the 5th horseman of the apocolyse although it was tailored nicely towards media with the sting in the tail you’d expect from such a long time activist.

The standout for me was John Grant with his ability to get to the nuts of what’s needed from our industry, a memorable image, something consumers can grab onto and understand in a space where the language and message is at best confusing. John’s comparison to what the condom did for the AIDS crisis in the early 1980’s was compelling – listen to John’s talk here.

Microtrends - Mark Penn

I’ll admit to being perhaps a bit too interested in planning for someone who is paid to be ‘creative’, and I’ve always got one eye on what Russell Davies is saying, but his flag on Microtrends peaked my interest enough to explore further. Mark Penn suggests that the most important trends today are the smallest ones and argues that these small unseen trends are shaping the world. A great notion, the book is on order and I look forward to reading.
