Guerilla in the room – Click07 Conference
December 7, 2007
After attending the Click07 conference last week, I was left wondering where the creativity in digital had gone. We saw some great digital and integrated campaigns, but we’d seen them before, because they have been around a while, quite a while in some cases.
At one point (well two points actually) the Cadbury’s gorilla ad was wheeled out as a great example of creativity, which it is, but I truly don’t believe that something created for TV then put on youTube can really be justified as a great example of a digital campaign.
The conference showed us all some technologies and ideas that perhaps some of the audience were not aware of, but what was missing here was examples of the creative application of those technologies. At one point I thought a presenter was going to ask me to sign up for a ’special conference deal’ to put my next campaign into a XBOX game.
Very disappointing with the conference being fronted by Creative Review.
Regent St Christmas Lights
November 22, 2007

Spotted these lovely lights on Monday night in Regents St. Just found out they are called ‘Unity’ and were created by Wieden + Kennedy London in partnership with UVA for Nokia. They change colour in reaction to wind, temperature and soon you’ll be able to interact with them through the new Nokia store on Regent St.
Green Marketing Manifesto
November 16, 2007

Read John Grant’s new book ”The Green Marketing Manifesto’. I heard John talk at Applied Green and to my mind, he was the standout speaker of the day.
John will send a free copy of the book to the first 50 people who link to it, but I’ve already got one coming, so if you read this John and I’m (very doubtfully) one of the first 50 – pass it on.
Dirty Lunchtime Smile

Sun was out, bike in the boot, work a bit full on. Thrash in the woods put a smile on my face – and plenty of mud.

Flash like.no.other
November 13, 2007
Papervision3D, the open source Flash 3D project by Carlos Ulloa has been used to develop the new Sony BRAVIA site. Do you think this means early next year there will be a lot of Flash 3D sites being launched? Possibly, we’ve been there before circa 1999, but this time it could be done with speed and style. That said, 3D works for the BRAVIA, lets hope the world doesn’t go 3D again because it can.
What global warming needs is a condom
November 12, 2007

Slightly belated – Applied Green conference 3rd October
Billed as a conference where the biggest names will tackle the biggest issue we face, I was fairly keen to see if all the marketing and greenecosociologicalistic luminaries could work out a way in which a socially influential industry such as our could have a real impact.
The day began with Jonathon Porritt introducing the 5th horseman of the apocolyse although it was tailored nicely towards media with the sting in the tail you’d expect from such a long time activist.
The standout for me was John Grant with his ability to get to the nuts of what’s needed from our industry, a memorable image, something consumers can grab onto and understand in a space where the language and message is at best confusing. John’s comparison to what the condom did for the AIDS crisis in the early 1980’s was compelling – listen to John’s talk here.
wearethoughtfull have a compendium of the best links from the day here.
